"I start talking to parents as soon as I know a baby will be in my care. If we know there is a problem before the baby is born, I get in touch with the parents to counsel them on the issue and what to expect. After the baby is born, I provide updates daily, or several times a day if the situation is critical. I do everything I can to make sure that families understand what I tell them about the baby’s condition at all times. Having a baby in the NICU is a very difficult situation to be in, but I assure parents that we've worked with these cases many times, and we have the resources and expertise to handle it. I try to ease their anxiety by meeting with them to talk about the situation and help them understand it through various articles."
